Founder André Citroën launched the Citroën 10 HP Type A in 1919. It was a modestly priced vehicle with low maintenance costs, and the first French car put into mass production. The Citroën 10 HP Type A was luxurious for its period, featuring fabric upholstery, cushions, spring-loaded seatbacks, side window shades and electric lighting. This model was in production until 1921 when it was replaced with the Citroën 5HP Type C. Since then, more than 300 Citroën models have been created and sold around the world.1
In 2019, 100 years after Citroën’s birth, the manufacturer sold 1 million vehicles in over 90 countries. Thanks to several major launches since 2016, they boasted a renewed range that year, with all models sharing a distinctive design and a high level of comfort. The majority of these (825,000) were sold in Europe, with the China and Southeast Asia region coming in second with 114,000 sales in 2019.2
In January 2019, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia won the Rallye Monte-Carlo, claiming Citroën Racing's 100th World Rally Championship victory – the same year Citroën celebrated its centenary. Since its foundation in 1919, the brand has become known for its ability to succeed in bold sporting challenges.3
Hundreds of Citroën models from throughout the years have been preserved in the Conservatoire Heritage centre in Paris. The museum houses the world's largest selection of Citroën vehicles (and one of the world’s largest collection of vehicles, full stop), with more than 400 on show – most in perfect condition. Plus, it’s a treasure trove of all things Citroën, including industrial and commercial archives that trace the history of the brand.4
