Comprehensive car insurance for the protection you need most.

Our Comprehensive car insurance is all about getting to know how you use (and don’t use) your car. This way, you’ll be able to choose the cover that suits your situation and feel extra confident when you’re out on the road.

What's included?

Take a look at all these features for protecting your car. We don’t call it Comprehensive cover for nothing.

Theft

With our Comprehensive car insurance, your car is covered if someone steals it, or tries to, and causes any damage to the vehicle.4

Accidental damage

Don’t stress when accidents happen. If you or anyone else accidentally damages your car, we’ll cover the cost to replace or repair it.3

Storm, hail or flood damage

When the weather’s at its worst, know your car’s covered against damage caused by severe weather events like storms, hail and floods.3

Towing costs

If your car’s damaged after an insured event and can’t be driven, we’ll cover the reasonable cost of towing it to (and storing it at) the closest suitable location for safekeeping.5

Emergency repairs, transport and accommodation

If your car’s unsafe to drive after an insured event and you're more than 100km from home, we’ll reimburse you up to $1,000 for emergency transport, accommodation and repairs.6

Hire car when you’re not at fault

After an accident with another vehicle where the other driver is at fault, we’ll keep you moving. We’ll pay for a hire car until your car is repaired or until we pay out your claim for a total loss.3

Contents inside your car

If items inside your car are lost or damaged due to an insured event, we’ll cover them too - up to $150 per item and up to $750 per claim.4

Intentional damage

Things like smashed windows, slashed tyres and damaged paintwork can be expensive to fix. We’ll cover the cost to replace or repair your car if someone (other than you, a listed driver or anyone else who’s been given permission to drive it) intentionally damages it.3

Earthquake

As rare as they are here in Australia, earthquakes can still strike and cause major destruction. So, feel confident your car will be covered if it’s damaged.4

Car hire after theft

We’ll keep you moving after your car is stolen, with up to 14 days of car hire included as standard with Comprehensive car insurance cover.4

Fire

From bushfires to housefires, if your car sustains damage from a fire, we’ll cover the cost to replace or repair it.8

What's optional?

Fancy a few extras to make dealing with accidents and unexpected events even easier? Here are the optional covers available for you to choose from. Not all options are available on every policy, so just ask us if there’s an option that interests you.

Your choice of repairer

While we have an extensive network of repairers, we also understand you might like to choose your own. Just let us know if you want to be able to select who fixes your car if you ever need to make a claim and we’ll add it on to your policy.9

Reduced excess for windscreen claims

Chipped and broken glass can be a hassle, and costly to repair. We offer reduced excess for claims that solely involve windscreen, window glass or sunroof glass.7

Lost or damaged business items

We’ve got an option to make impacts on your business a little less painful. Choose to add business items to your Comprehensive car insurance policy and get covered for up to $400 per item and up to $2,000 per claim if they’re lost or damaged in an insured event.9

Hire car for other insured events

Not being able to drive your car for a while can really throw out the daily routine. Add this optional extra onto your Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft policy to have a hire car for up to 14 days, no matter what insured event takes place (even if you’re at fault).9

Campervan/motorhome contents

For some people, their home and their car are the same thing. So if your car’s a campervan or motorhome, choose this optional extra to cover the contents inside for up to $1,000 per item if they’re lost or damaged in an insured event.9

Comprehensive car insurance is exactly that – comprehensive. With this level of cover, we’ll cover you for a wide range of damage caused by an insured event, such as car accidents, theft, intentional damage, fire and severe weather events like storms, hail and floods.

Youi’s fully Comprehensive level of cover includes cover for a wide range of damage caused by insured events. These insured events include:

  • Theft
  • Accidental damage
  • Storm, hail or flood

Also included with Youi fully Comprehensive car cover is:

  • Roadside assistance
  • New car replacement
  • Towing costs

While our Comprehensive car insurance covers a wide range of situations, there are a few exclusions that are worth being aware of. Our Comprehensive car insurance doesn’t cover:

  • Incidents outside your coverage period
  • Damage due to poor materials or workmanship
  • Coverage for improper drivers (e.g. a driver under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or a driver with a suspended licence)
  • Climate or weather damage, mould, rot or damp (unless this is a direct result of an incident for which we’ve accepted a claim)

For full details on what’s not covered, please read the Product Disclosure Statement.

It’s important to keep in mind that your Comprehensive car insurance is only attached to your vehicle. It does not follow you around if you drive other people’s vehicles.

Comprehensive car insurance is a level of cover that protects you from unexpected damage such as damage caused by theft, fire, storms or earthquakes. Where the insured event is a collision, it covers the damage caused by your car as well as the damage to your car.

Third Party Fire & Theft (a.k.a. collision) car insurance covers you for fewer things than comprehensive cover. For example, where the insured event is a collision, it covers the damage your car causes, but not the damage to your car.

Deciding whether Comprehensive car insurance is for you will depend on your car insurance needs (and the Comprehensive car insurance quote you receive).

There are many questions to consider, but a few important ones are:

  • Will the cost of repairing your car be greater than your annual insurance premium?
  • What are the weather conditions like where you live? Is there the potential for your car to experience damage as a result of fire, storm, flood or earthquake?
  • Where do you park your car? Some car parking locations mean your car is more vulnerable towards theft and intentional damage.
  • Do you want roadside assistance included as part of your level of cover?

The short answer: CTP car insurance is required by law in Australia and covers you in case you cause injury or death to another person in the event of an accident. It does not cover any property damage. Comprehensive car insurance, on the other hand, covers you for a wide range of other insured events such as fires, storms and floods.

Longer answer, in case you’re in the mood for reading:

  • As well as covering your legal liability, Comprehensive car insurance generally covers loss or damage to your car for a wide range of insured events and usually has a longer list of extra covers which are included and triggered for different reasons. Extra covers and optional covers differ between insurers and it will pay to understand what is available and what you believe best suits your needs.

  • CTP insurance is a type of insurance you are required by law to have in all Australian states and territories to register your vehicle. In most states and territories, CTP insurance is included with your registration. However, in NSW (where CTP is often referred to as ‘Green Slip insurance’), drivers are required to have a policy in place before registering their vehicle. You can learn more about NSW CTP insurance and SA CTP insurance on the Youi website.

CTP insurance does not cover any property damage. Instead, it’s a form of personal liability insurance against injury or death caused to another person by your car in the event of an accident.

Yes. At Youi, we offer flexible excess levels so you can choose the excess to suit your needs and budget.

If you have a Comprehensive policy, Youi roadside assistance is automatically included. Simply call 13 1117.2

If your car is a total loss within 24 months of it being first registered, we will replace it (or pay the replacement cost) with a new one. T&C's apply.1

If you have taken the ‘choice of repairer’ cover as an option, yes. With this optional cover, we will pay for the fair and reasonable costs of repairs as determined by us. These repairs may be carried out by a repairer from outside our repair network.9

With both Comprehensive and Third Party Fire & Theft policies, we cover the reasonable cost of towing and storage of the car after an insured event.5 We also reimburse costs for emergency accommodation, transport or repairs to the car within set limits.6

Although we don't have 'free' windscreen replacement, we make sure the excess is affordable by allowing you to choose a reduced windscreen excess.
